CHAPTER 2 OF 5

2. Basic structure

Your goal: understand the table, row, and cell elements.

Four elements to recognize

<table>
Contains the table.
<tr>
Contains one row of cells.
<th>
Identifies a header cell.
<td>
Contains an ordinary data cell.

Cells belong inside rows. Close one cell before starting the next. Keep the same intended columns aligned across rows.

One workshop row (a fragment, not a complete table)
<tr> <th scope="row">Creating accessible tables</th> <td>Thursday</td> <td>2:00 p.m.</td> </tr>

The workshop name is already marked as a header. Chapter 3 explains scope; Chapter 4 places the rows inside the complete table structure.

The finished example

Both workshops take place at the community center. Times are local.

This reference preview includes the header relationships and caption explained across the chapters.
